So, as you all now I have a slight addiction to nut butter and this is putting it mildly. What can I say when a girl loves nut butter she loves nut butter. This girl also happens to love cooking and making my own snacks. It just hit me but why not try and make my own nut butter. Nothing better than eating your very own creations.
This is how I make nut butter (Take note I do love to just throw things together and taste as I cook);
Roast a bag of macadamia nuts on an oven tray until golden brown. I think 180C should do for about 15min or when they are brown. Just make sure to keep an eye on the nuts and toss them around every 5 minutes. You wouldn’t want to make nut butter with burnt nuts except if you like a smokie flavor. Let your nuts cool slightly before blending, they should be warm, not hot.
This is where the fun and noisy part starts. Throw all your nuts in a food processer and start. After a few minutes you will see that the nuts will become a butter like consistency.
Now you can start adding some flavor. I love cacao in my nut butter because who doesn’t love chocolate. Add about 2 tablespoons of cacao and also 2 tablespoons of honey. Blend some more and taste. If you prefer a stronger cacao taste you can add some more or if you like your nut butter a tad sweeter then add some more honey.
This step is only necessary if you prefer your nut butter slightly runny. You can add some macadamia oil and blend some more. Only add about 1 tablespoon and then see if you would need more.
So how easy was that? Just one word of warning – once you start you might never stop.
Do share you nut butter attempts with us and let us know how it tastes.
